4 Crucial Heat Pump Components and What They Do

Heat Pump

Heat pumps will keep your home cozy during winter and cool during summer in Norco, CA. They use several components to exchange heat between the outside and indoor air. Read on to learn about the different components of a heat pump and what they do.

Condenser

The condenser unit is a crucial component of the system. It’s the metal box that sits outside your home. It houses the compressor and other vital components. The compressor is responsible for circulating the refrigerant. Depending on the surrounding temperature, the condenser unit helps collect or release heat.

Fans

Without the fans, heat pumps cannot function. The fans force air through your ductwork and the HVAC system at large, including over the coils that are responsible for transferring heat to and from said air.

Evaporator and Condenser Coils

The indoor portion of your heat pump includes evaporator coils, which use refrigerant to absorb heat from the air in your home. The heated refrigerant then flows through the condenser coil in the outside unit to release the heat.

To cool your home, your heat pump does the same process, but in reverse. The condenser coil transfers heat from outside to refrigerant inside the pump, and then the indoor coil releases the heat into the air your system distributes throughout your home.

Expansion Valve

The expansion valve is another key component of a heat pump. It regulates the flow of refrigerant in liquid and vapor form. This enables the refrigerant to properly distribute the heat.
